Pastor Douglas Riley was born in Durham, NC and at the age of 3 moved to Hampton, Virginia. During the summers, he would go to live at his grandparent’s home in Hillsborough, NC to work on the farm and help around the church. It was during this time he started his journey as a child of God at Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
He moved to Durham, NC with his mom, the late Georgia Scurlock-Riley and two brothers: Kenneth Riley and the late Maurice Riley. While in Durham, he attended Durham High School and Campbell University.
Pastor Riley academic achievements include a BBA in Business Administration/Accounting, Certification of Payroll Accountant, Certificate in Ministry Empowerment, Pastoral Care, and a Master of Divinity from Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology. Pastor Riley attends Church Leadership Conference at VUU yearly to continue his lifelong learning goal.
Pastor Riley is married to his best friend and 4th Grade Teacher of 32 years, Ivy Broaddus-Riley, together they have 4 children, James, Sherrell, Timothy, and Douglas II, and 2 granddaughters, Gabriella, and Teagen.
Currently living in the Big City of King William, pastor Riley has been busy during his down time. In 2021 Pastor Riley won the Virginia Governor’s Award for Public Service from Former Governor Ralph Northam. Some of his community involvements includes being the founding member and president of the King William Children First Lions Club, Past President of the King William Democratic Committee, Member of the King William County Board of Equalization, worked with Fatherhood Initiative Program, worked with King William Strategic Planning Program, worked with the Acquinton Elementary School Gentleman’s Club.
Pastor Riley currently works for the State of Virginia. Pastor Riley attributes his community involvement to his mentor and spiritual father, Pastor Dr. Wilbert D. Talley of Third Union Baptist Church.
As the current Pastor of Shepherdsville Baptist Church, Pastor Riley hopes to develop a congregation where we join together to put God’s love into action, where we worship together as believers to increase our personal relationship with God and promote spiritual growth. To practice Evangelism, by witnessing in the name of Jesus Christ with loving words and unselfish deeds to all we encounter during our daily walk.
